Bill would keep state from implementing Common Core Standards

3/5 The Senate Education Committee hears SB 210 (Lamping) tomorrow (Wednesday). The bill would prohibit the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education from implementing the Common Core State Standards. The State Board of Education adopted the Common Core State Standards for Missouri in 2010. Nearly all other states also have adopted the standards. New state tests based on the standards in language arts and math will be given to students beginning in the 2014-15 school year. MSBA will testify against the bill since the state is already well down the road toward implementing the Common Core State Standards.
