A school district's policies are its voice. As an advocate for School Board leadership, MSBA enhances the power of your school district's voice through assistance in developing clear, well-written School Board policies, an important tool for effective school board governance.
MSBA's Policy Services department keeps member districts up to date on policy changes brought about by legislative action, agency regulations and educational trends. All material produced by the Policy Services department is reviewed by MSBA's legal and legislative staff members, as well as the Policy Advisory Committee, which consists of superintendents, school law attorneys, board members and insurance specialists.
Keeping board policies current can be simple, thanks to MSBA. Our Policy Services fit your preferences - from samples that you can customize for your district's specific needs, all the way up to Full Maintenance Policy Service that lets us do all the work for you. We also provide local board in-service training, so that you can understand how to make your policies work even better for your district.
MSBA's policy materials are organized into a two-volume set:
The first volume contains policies and regulations that require board adoption. Policies and regulations keep the district legally compliant, help the district meet accreditation requirements and promote student achievement. As the chief policymaking body of the district, the board should regularly adopt updates to this volume.
The second volume contains administrative procedures and administrative forms, that are intended to be routinely developed and monitored by the district's administrators to implement board policies. Even though this volume is to be used exclusively by the administration and, as such, does not require board action, the procedures and forms must always be tailored for consistency with adopted board policy.
