Purpose:
The Advocacy Committee advances the views of MSBA school board members in the public and governmental arenas on current issues in education. The Committee also helps member districts to compound the effect of their investment by coordinating Association efforts at influencing legislation at the local, state and federal levels.
Activities:
The Advocacy Committee reaches out to school board members to understand their most pressing concerns and researches legislative strategies for addressing them. The Committee, working under the sanction of the Board of Directors, formulates recommendations for the MSBA Delegate Assembly to include in its political platform and promotes the enactment of laws and regulations designed to bolster the interests of member districts and public education.
Committee Structure:
The President chairs this committee, consisting of 17 advocacy committee representatives, five governmental relations chairs and one large district representative or K-8 representative from the Board of Directors.
