ESGN-An Overview

ESGN, the Education Solutions Global Network, is an Internet protocol television (IPTV) service of the Missouri School Boards' Association (MSBA). Launched in March 2006 with its initial broadcast, ESGN delivers live or archived video programming via the Internet to computers-wherever anyone has an Internet connection (dial up, DSL, or T1). ESGN programs can be watched simultaneously by hundreds, or thousands, of viewers. Two core beliefs that guide ESGN are: education is the answer to the world's problems; and, through understanding, trust among people is built.

In the determination of programs broadcast by ESGN, preference is given to:

1. Programs with content devoted to education, training, or professional development. In this sense, ESGN's target audience is much broader that the traditional "kindergarten through grade 12 population"-ESGN offers programs that to a degree are appropriate for learners of all ages. Some ESGN programs are produced by MSBA; some ESGN programs are produced by other entities and ESGN is simply the broadcast, distributive venue for the content. A common element among ESGN programs, regardless of their origin, is that the programs focus on some aspect of education, training, or professional development content of value to viewers.
   
   
2. Programs that are live and viewer interactive. ESGN is not just another video streaming solution. ESGN's technology provides learners the option to take an active part in live broadcasts-including the opportunity to submit questions and comments directly to program presenters or respond in "real time" to poll questions. Because ESGN is "Internet based," viewers can also link to web sites during programs and download accompanying support material to obtain information that enriches the dynamic ESGN experience.
   
   
3. Programs that utilize or promote other MSBA assets and resources. There are a number of assets and resources of MSBA that complement ESGN and the development of programming distributed by ESGN, whether the program content is produced by MSBA, or by another entity. These assets include a full range of video production capabilities (both in-studio and on-location). With more than twenty years of video production and distribution experience in the United States, MSBA offers a broad spectrum of professional and technical expertise in video programming.
