The Missouri School Boards' Association commends the actions of eighty Members of the Missouri House of Representatives for voting to support public education and the rights of students with disabilities by opposing tax credit vouchers. On Wednesday, April 9, 2008, the eighty House Members' vote to oppose tax credit vouchers for students with disabilities expresses a commitment to and belief in the value of public education and the willingness to support the school systems that are educating over 900,000 Missouri children. The eighty House Members defeated an amendment to HB 2040 that would have undermined the rights for students with disabilities as provided by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The defeated amendment would have created tax credit vouchers to remove students with disabilities to private institutions that are unaccountable to the students, parents and public for providing the services guaranteed by the IDEA. On behalf of the publicly elected school boards belonging to the Missouri School Boards' Association, the MSBA Board of Directors hereby commends the following House Members for their praiseworthy vote to oppose tax credit vouchers:
