The Missouri School Boards' Association has selected the Platte County R-III Board of Education as Missouri's Outstanding Board of Education for 2008. The award was announced at the 2008 MSBA Annual Conference at the Lake of the Ozarks on October 25.
The Platte County R-III Board of Education was selected by a committee of school board members from districts throughout the state.
School boards were considered for the award based on the level of student achievement in their districts, the improvement of student achievement in their districts, and the commitment of school board members to their own education and training.
School boards seeking the award also must make continuing board development a priority by regularly attending regional, state and national conferences.
"The Platte County R-III Board of Education exemplifies the characteristics of an effective leadership team," says MSBA Executive Director Dr. Carter Ward. "These board members are to be congratulated for their dedication to the students in their district."
The other finalists for the award this year were school boards from Grain Valley R-V, Lindbergh R-VIII, Pattonville R-III, and School of the Osage R-II.
