Vicky Byassee, East Prairie Schools nurse, received the Heroes Among Us award from the Missouri School Safety Association (MOSSA) at the Safe Schools and Colleges Conference. This state award recognizes a person who has acted in a way that impacted the safety or security of students or a district.
While “Nurse Vicky” is usually known for her daily work taping up shoes for students who can’t afford a new pair or placing a bandage on a scrape or cut, on one particular day, she stepped in and saved a student’s life. When a student collapsed in the hallway, Vicky began performing CPR and managing the situation and stayed by the students side until the student could be transported to the hospital. The school credits Vicky for saving the student’s life. Thank you, Nurse Vicky!
