New Board Member Training
Make the most of your school board service with MSBA’s Essential Training for new board members.
CBM Essential training meets the state requirement of 16 hours of training and is free for all new board members. One half of the training is completed online while the remainder is provided in a classroom setting. Registration is required. Once you register for a specific classroom date, access to the online training will be provided one month prior to the date selected, unless earlier access is requested.
Board Candidates running unopposed may participate in the training prior to the election if space is available. Existing board members have priority.

The April 2018 to March 2019 training schedule will be available no later than April 1, 2018.

CBM Essential new board member training is delivered in a blended format. Half of the training is provided online through a web-based application. The remainder is provided in a classroom setting at locations around the state. A diverse group of presenters deliver the content based on effective board governance. The required content is addressed and includes sessions on:

- School Law
- School Finance
- Board Policy
- Board Relations
- Board Operations
- Goal Setting/Strategic Planning
Registration is required. Registered board members receive access to the online training one month prior to the classroom training date. Earlier access will be provided upon request.

Missouri law (§ 162.203, RSMo.) requires all school board members to receive 16 hours of training within their first 12 months of service. MSBA’s CBM Essential Board Member Training fulfills this requirement and provides the foundation for becoming an effective board member.
CBM Essential training is free for all new board members. Registration is required.
