New Board Members

Missouri law (§ 162.203, RSMo.) requires all school board members to receive 18.5 hours of training within their first 12 months of service. MSBA’s CBM Essential Board Member Training fulfills this requirement and provides the foundation for becoming an effective board member. The training is free for all new board members but registration is required.

Make the most of your school board service with MSBA’s Essential Training for new board members.

Various presenters deliver the content based on effective board governance. The required content is addressed and includes sessions on:

  • Student Achievement
  • School Law
  • School Finance
  • Board Policy
  • Board Relations
  • Board Operations
  • Goal Setting/Strategic Planning
  • Advocacy
  • Communications
  • Prevention of Student Sexual Abuse

The training is free, but registration is required.  Superintendents are welcome to attend with their new board member(s) as space allows.

Registration

CBM Essential training meets the state requirement of 18.5 hours of training and is free for all new board members. Registration is required. Select the date and location that works best for you. When you register, if it is the first time you are connecting to MSBA’s New Membership Portalyou will need to enter your email address and then select “Forgotten Password.” The prompt will ask for your email address and then will send you a link to create your password. (Use the email address where you receive MSBA correspondence.) After you create a password, log in to the membership portal and register for the event.

10.5 Hours Completed Online and 8 Hours Interactive in Classroom

All sessions begin promptly at 8:30 AM and end by 6:15 PM unless otherwise noted.
